9 pin serial to 10 pin header

They didn't notice that one of the pins is blank. Overall Review: This plugs into a pin header on your motherboard. Cons: Does not come with low profile bracket, so order a different one if you need that.

Overall Review: pin connector is keyed by lip only, not by a blank pin. So if your motherboard receiver is framed which should have a lip keyhole , there's nothing to worry about. If your motherboard receiver does not have a plastic receiver frame then you need to read your motherboard's manual or contact support to determine which pin is pin 1, otherwise you might install backwards. Pros: -It does what it's supposed to. Cons: -It's cheaply built, however it's also cheap to buy so that's not a big deal.

The header it plugs into is similar to USB 2. Only some boards have a plastic socket around the connector. If there's a plastic socket on your motherboard, you can't plug it in wrong. However since there's no blank pin in the plug on this product, it CAN be plugged in upside down on motherboards which don't have the plastic socket around the header, like the one I used this product on.

I don't know what would happen if it were plugged in the wrong way. I used an educated guess by comparing to a motherboard of the same brand with the plastic socket to decide which way to plug it in, and that way was correct for me. Overall Review: I recommend this product if your motherboard has a 9 pin COM header and you need a serial port. If you've got the header for it, there's no need to use a PCI slot for a serial port.

All my asus boards have a COM header, so no problems here. If you really want to be sure you don't plug it in wrong, go for a motherboard which has the plastic socket around the COM header. Pros: if you need a com port and your motherboard has a header, then you can't lose! I separated the connector from the bracket to attach a null modem adapter in between, having that inside the case was better than it hanging outside the case.

That worked pretty well. Overall Review: There are no cons. If your motherboard has a serial port header, this is just what you need. Pros: fit nicely cable was very flexible was just what I was looking for very happy with this unit.
